Tutoring Experience
For the past five years, I've been a dedicated IB Mathematics tutor, accumulating over 1000 hours of one-to-one lessons. I've worked with students of various ages and abilities, including those with learning difficulties, and have consistently seen a significant improvement in their grades and confidence.
My students have achieved up to 7 points in their HL Mathematics exams, and many have pursued STEM fields in higher education as a result of our sessions.
Beyond individual tutoring, I've also had the opportunity to lead small study groups, where I facilitated collaborative problem-solving and discussion. I’ve also conducted online tutoring sessions for students around the world, adapting to different learning styles and time zones.
What I value the most from this experience is the chance to instill in my students a deeper appreciation and enthusiasm for mathematics.
Tutoring Approach
My approach to tutoring is highly personalised, catering to the unique needs and goals of each student. My primary focus is to ensure that students grasp the underlying principles in mathematics, not just memorise procedures. I do this by providing a clear and succinct explanation of concepts, followed by guided practice to reinforce learning. I use a variety of resources, including visual aids and online tools, to facilitate understanding.
I believe in regular assessment, therefore, I conduct mini-tests to track progress and pinpoint areas for revision. As exams approach, I shift the focus to exam strategies, including effective time management, tackling different types of questions, and reducing exam stress through preparation.
I value open communication with my students, regularly seeking feedback to refine my approach and ensure the best possible learning experience. In all this, I strive to make learning mathematics a truly engaging and enjoyable process.
