Tutoring Experience

I have tutored several students in college admissions essay writing as well as in chemistry, biology, and English writing and language. My college admissions tutees have gained admission into their top choice colleges, including Purdue University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Tutoring Approach

Biology: I look through my student’s syllabus or curriculum and meet with them to understand their learning methods. I then choose review problems relevant to the material and ask them to solve or think through those. I explain the content as well as how to solve the problems in detail.

MCAT: I meet with the student to understand their best learning style, and then teach content systematically. I create a study plan with the student based on their schedule, and work with the student through practice problems and practice exams. I use Kaplan MCAT prep books.

SAT: I assign practice problems and exams, then review those with the student the following week. I explain how to approach problems that the student has answered incorrectly or has questions about

English Writing: I teach effective writing strategies and literary tools. I then look through writing samples the student presents, either from a course they are enrolled in or responses to prompts that I provide. I discuss the writing pieces with the student in workshop-style sessions.

College Admissions Essays: I work with students in three stages: brainstorming, drafting, and reviewing. I will help the student choose an essay topic, outline a first draft, and then revise it until it is ready to be submitted.
